Margalit introduces her mom, Suzanne Flax. |
Our second STEM presentation was by Suzanne Flax, speech pathologist. She described how her childhood interests, especially in middle school, played a major role in choosing her profession. She also described all the different aspects of speech pathology. One interesting thing we learned is that speech pathologists can help people reduce their accents when speaking a second language!
Thank you for your extremely informative presentation. I didn't realize how connected speech pathology is to STEM. We are so pleased that you could spend some time with Team 6-4!
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming! I missed the first STEM worker and now understand what it is all about. I was so interested (and surprised) in how your own voice does sound like it does on a recording. Thanks again!

Thanks so much for coming in and teaching us about your interesting career. I found it really interesting, and I found out things that I didn't know before.
ReplyDeleteThanks
Isabelle
Thanks for so much info
ReplyDeleteThanks for the exciting presentation. I learned a lot about speech pathology. At first I didn't even know speech pathologists existed. I never knew you had cleft palate as a child. I wonder how I can hear my voice as it actually sounds without a recording device. Making movies must be hard if actors don't know how they sound on tape. Thanks again Mrs.Flax.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for coming! I very much enjoyed your presentation and will definitely think about pathology as a future career. I also really liked how you tied things you liked to do when you were a child into becoming a pathologist, it gives me a whole new perspective when thinking about what I want to do when I'm older. Thanks again!

ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed hearing about your stem career and its is interesting that your visit to the hospital started your eagerness
Thank you so much for coming! I never knew that the reason why you stutter is because your breathing is not aligned, because sometimes I do stutter. Also, I agree, I think that it is VERY interesting how your voice sounds just like it does on a recording(because I don't like how my voice sounds like! To me, it is embarrassing!) Anyway, I loved you presentation and I can't wait for the next one! Thanks again for coming!
ReplyDeleteThank you for coming. I loved how you connected all your interests into one job that you did! The presentation was great.

ReplyDeleteThank you so much for coming to our class and talking about your job. It was very informative and I learned a lot about speech pathology and how when you speak, the sound comes behind your ears. Thank you so much for coming in and teaching us about speech pathology! I didn't even know that speech pathology existed until you came in. I love the presentation that you put together for us, and I thought that it was very informative. It is so cool how your interests as a kid connected to your job and also its cool that you had a clef pallet and it sort of inspired you to be a speech therapist. I learned a lot. For instance, I didn't know that you could reduce an accent or get rid of a stutter. And its awesome that your office is next to a gym. It is also pretty cool that you work with kids and help them with their speech. I really hope you come in again and teach us even more about your amazing job.

ReplyDeleteThank you so very much for teaching Team 6-4 what voice therapists do. I never knew that voice therapists study how twins make their own language.
ReplyDeleteHi Mrs. Flax!
ReplyDeleteYour presentation was very good. I never knew that twins could do those things you told us about! Also, knowing now about what you told us about our voices being what we sound like on video, I tested it when I got home, and I hate what I really sound like. Of course, I bet everybody does.
Sincerely,
Bobby
Thank you for teaching us all about your your job as a speech pathologist! I never knew that the way your voice sounds on a recording is actually what it sounds like to other people before you told us. I also never knew exactly how a cleft palate would change how you speak. I also loved the powerpoint you showed us. It was very informative. thanks once again!!

Thank you for coming in, I hope you had a great time at oak hill teaching us about speech pathology. It was such a new thing to me. I didn't know many things you said. But now I learned about a whole new wing of science. For instance,I didn't know what a cleft pallet was until you came, another thing I learned was that there were not many scientists that has your job, also I wonder how the first pathologist learned pathology, and yeah you know what I mean by learning a lot.I was so excited to learn about your job.Hoped you enjoyed coming! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks again for coming, I never knew there were so many forms of pathology. One of the things I still wonder about is"How many people in 100 usually get cleft palate?". I heard that cleft palate also affects eating. Is this true? Do many people come to you who want an american accent? What is an american accent? Thanks again for coming.
ReplyDeleteThank you so very very much for coming and giving a presentation about your job! I didn't know you could change people's accent! Do you work with audiologists? I read a book and the boy had a cleft palate too. I hop to learn more about speech pathologists.

ReplyDeleteThank you so much for coming in to our class on Monday. I really enjoyed hearing about speech pathology. I never knew that there was so many types of pathology. I also never knew that you could help someone, from another country say some words in a more American accent. That's really cool. I also thought it was cool, how you told us what you liked to do in middle school, and how they come into play in our job. You were a very good presenter. Thanks again!

Thanks for coming.I like your job it was vary cool.I never heard of a clef pellet but now I do.Also cool that you watched frog change.thank you for taking your time to come to team 6-4.
ReplyDeleteThank you sooooo much. I learned a lot like that the reason you sound differently to other peaple than how you hear yourself is because the sound comes from behind your ears. Also, I never knew that you could go to a speech pathologist if you wanted to get your accent reduced. I think that is really cool. At first I didn't even know that speech pathology existed, but now that I know a lot more about it, it sounds really cool!
ReplyDeleteThanks again!
