Elizabeth's mom, Barbara Cannon, gave an interesting and very informative talk about mental illness on Tuesday. She went over several cases and how these cases would be diagnosed and treated. You could tell by her enthusiasm that she really loved what she does: using her head, hand and heart! |
I found this so interesting. Thanks for your presentation and your help for our veterans.
ReplyDeleteMr. Bunting

ReplyDeleteGil
I had so much fun learning about your job. It looks interesting.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for coming,
Irene
Thank you Mrs. Cannon for coming into our class and teaching us about your job! I liked the activity we did when we had to guess what type of mental illness was happening in the situations. I've learned a lot about mental illness from this experience. I have one question. Is there a mental illness that's contagious? Thanks again!!!
ReplyDeleteSincerely,
Yordi
Hi Jordi,
DeleteThis is a great question. The mental illnesses we discussed during my visit to your class are not contagious at all. This is really important to remember, since people with mental illness often feel isolated, and it's important not to avoid them because we fear "catching" something. There are some very rare psychiatric conditions that may be considered "contagious" (caused by an infection, for example).
It was so cool to see what you do for a career! I have always wondered what a physiatrist was and now I know! It was very interesting to see when someone would see a physiatrist, and what they would do to help. It really seems like a cool job!
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming!

Dear Mrs.Cannon,
ReplyDeleteThank you for coming in and giving a speech about Psychiatry and Community Mental Health to our class. It was very interesting and educational.
From: Karen
I thought it was interesting to see the different types of mental illnesses and how they are developed. It must feel good helping people. Have you ever dealt with an illness that couldn't be cured?
ReplyDeleteBenji
Hi Benji,
DeleteWe can usually do a lot to help people with mental illness feel better. Sometimes the illness may go away entirely with treatment. Often, though, people with mental illness still have the illness but are able to "manage it" (make it much better) with treatment, support of family and friends, and their own psychological strengths and resources.
Thank you so much for coming in! I loved your presentation. I liked learning about the different mental illnesses and specific examples of them.

Dear Barbara,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for coming to our class and telling us about what you do. I found your presentation really interesting and I was wondering, have you ever felt that one of your patience could physically harm themselves or others
Jack B
Hi Jack,
DeleteYes, this sometimes happens with mental illness. Psychiatrists receive a lot of training in how to assess and address these safety issues and how to help people and their families with them.
Dear Barbara,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for coming to our class and teaching us about what you do. I loved how you showed us different examples of mental illnesses and we had to try and guess them. It was very interesting and fun. Thank you again for taking your time to put a slideshow together and visit our classroom.

Thank you for presenting to us. You presented very well, and I found your presentation very interesting. One thing I was wondering, because i have heard many definitions, what is the definition of insane, or is that just a blunt way of saying mentally ill?
ReplyDelete-John
Hi John,
DeleteGood question. The word "insane" isn't used much in the mental health field because it isn't very specific and it tends to stigmatize people with mental illness. I agree - there are many definitions used for this word.
Thank you very much for coming into our class and teaching us about what you do. It was very interesting learning about mental illness'. You're presentation was awesome. My favorite part was learning about all of the illness' that could be cured. Also i loved learning about the veterans. Again it was great to learn about your job, thanks!

Thank you so much for coming in to our class and teaching us about your job. I find your job really interesting. I also think that the tools you use to help people who don't hear really well. It was also cool when you made that low pitch right next to the grains of rice and made them vibrate. Thank you again so much for coming in to tell us about your job.
